My name is Granblu, but you already knew that. Well, It's not my real name, obviously, but it's my online name that I use for some sites, such as MAL, spacehey, and a blog I started back in december but gave up on. I'm a media studies student, who enjoys anime, retro games and RPGs. My favourite games will be listed in the "games" section. I'm also a big, big noob at html, because I only started learning it a few hours ago. As such, this is a very ametueur production, and I'm probably going to overhaul it a number of times to have it looking more like my vision. I have a few websites I particularly like, mostly fanpages for games and such, and I'm going to strive to make my site as high quaity and enjoyable as those. I have a passion for old schoo style web design, before the age of social media, when people would sit down in front of their keyboards and make an entire website for stuff they enjoyed and were passionate about. Unfortunately, I wasn't around to see those sites in their golden years, and I wish I was. It makes me sad to see so many old sites that, when you click on them, return a 404 or some kind of other error message. And, if you can access them, they're usually full of dead links and images long deleted by their host. It's a shame. Yet, there are still som modern sites that aim to carry on the spirit and legacy of those old fansites, and I intend for this one to be one of them.
Well you see, I could never play many games as a kid. I played lego games on the wii and COD with my brother, but apart from that my scope on the videogame world was very limited indeed. However, I've always loved fantasy. I read the hobbit countless times, for example, and I would lie awake at night, with the lights off and a torch on, sitting and perusing the maps, pretending I was one of the dwarves plannning my epic adeventure to take Erebor back from the dastardly Smaug. Then, the next day I would run around the fields and woods that surrounded my home and pretend I was an armour clad warrior, fighting evil and saving the kingdom from deadly forces. You can see, then, how RPGs would appeal to me.
I got a ps3 for my 15th Birthday. It was a generation old by that point, but we couldn't afford a ps4 or anything like that. One of the games I played on that birthday was skyrim, and it was amazing. I fell in love from the second I created my character. I began searching the internet for more RPGs, and discovered emulation. I downloaded a Gameboy advance emulator onto my phone, as well as ROMs for Final Fantasy dawn of souls (GBA remakes of the first 2 FF games) and Final Fantasy IV. I became obsessed. I ran around the starting areas of Final Fantasy 1, fighting goblins and wolves, and by the time I fought the first boss Garland, I was... just slightly overleveled. Anyway, I eventually got a second hand GBA of my own and bought all the games, including Final Fantasy VI, and thus the Final Fantasy (and JRPG) obsession began.
That story is why You'll see Final Fantasy 1 is somewhere in my top 5. I know it's not a particularly well loved game in the modern JRPG crowd, but I love it because it was able to bring me back to my childhood days of running around the woods pretending to be a knight. In fact, I loved that game and my made up characters so much I even wrote an after story for them. So that's how I became so obsessed with the final fantasy games, as well as JRpgs in general? Why retro games? I dunno, I just like them.
